Hi, I’m Matthias and ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to become a “Accordion Worldchampion”.
Over the next two decades, I received 36 national and international awards, including two First Prizes at the Accordion World Championships (Coupe Mondiale). Celebrated by the press as the “David Garrett of the accordion,” I have performed on stages around the world.
After earning three music degrees, teaching for over 15 years across Europe, the USA, and Asia, and publishing more than 100 compositions and arrangements for accordion, I created what has become my most important milestone: the Matzke Method® and the Accordio learning platform.

How long does it take to learn the accordion?
If you’re learning how to play accordion as a beginner, it naturally depends on your goals and how much you practice. However, you can usually play a real little piece after your very first lesson—and after four weeks, even 3-4 complete pieces.
If you keep going, you can master all the essential basics of accordion playing within about six months. Our students prove it.
How hard is it to learn the accordion?
Learning to play the accordion is actually quite easy at first. Things that take years on many other instruments can be done on the accordion at the press of a button – like playing complex accompaniments and chords.
